The delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza is at its lowest point, a United Nations official has said.
His statement contradicted that of the US earlier this week which said Israel was not blocking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Israel, on the other hand, has said that it is working to help facilitate easier access to humanitarian aid.
"Access is at a very low point. Chaos, suffering, despair, death, destruction, displacement are at a high point," said Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Reuters reported.
Laerke has raised concerns about northern Gaza where residents have been ordered to go south as the incursion of Israeli forces continues for a month in that part. Israel has said its operations are designed to prevent the regrouping of Hamas fighters.
"We are particularly concerned about the situation in the north of Gaza, which is currently under siege and it is almost impossible to send aid there," he stressed.
