Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the war in Ukraine will end soon.

"I think the issue is coming to an end," he told reporters about the war in Ukraine, at a conference following events for Victory Day.

When asked about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Putin said that a meeting with him would only be possible after a lasting peace agreement was reached.

Putin was speaking at the Kremlin after Russia held a Victory Day parade. The May 9 national holiday celebrates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and pays tribute to the 27 million Soviet citizens who lost their lives in the war.
