Warsaw, September 3 – Germany should do more than apologize for atrocities committed in Poland during World War II, a prominent Polish lawmaker said today, adding to the demand for reparations.
"It's not enough to say 'I'm sorry' or 'we're to blame.' You still have to pay Poland for these losses. We will make this request again and again," said Arkadiusz Mularczyk, head of the Polish parliamentary team on war damage assessment.
"The consequences of the war are still visible in Poland, for example in the state of infrastructure in cities and villages," the lawmaker declared during a televised audience, according to wPolityce.pl. also transmits the reports
Mularczyk's parliamentary team is working on an assessment of the damage suffered by Poland during the war.
A timeline has not yet been set for the team's results to be released.
The lawmaker's comments follow two speeches by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Warsaw, where he apologized to Poles for World War II atrocities and emphasized Germany/DPA's responsibility.
