Thai police on Monday said they would continue arresting participants in anti-government protests, after nearly 100 were arrested in protests on Sunday.
Police in Thailand have cited the law restricting gatherings to prevent the spread of the coronavirus as the reason for the arrests.
Another protest has been announced later on Monday to free the jailed activists, raising fears of another confrontation with activists who are calling for an end to the military's dominance of politics and reforms of the powerful monarchy.
"We have prepared our troops to maintain order," said Pyia Tavichai, the deputy chief of the Bangkok Police, foreign media reported.
Piva said that 99 people were arrested on Sunday in front of the Government building, adding that the arrests were necessary under the law that prohibits public gatherings.
