The involvement of North Korean soldiers in support of the Russian invasion of Ukraine would constitute a serious escalation of the war, the foreign ministers of France and Ukraine warned at a joint press conference in Kiev. Senior Ukrainian officials as well as the South Korean intelligence agency warned that North Korea has already sent soldiers to fight Russia in Ukraine.
French Minister Jean-Noel Barrot qualified this as a development that could seriously escalate and open a new phase in the war.
And the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called the training of about 10 North Korean soldiers for engagement in the ranks of the Russian army as having an extraordinary risk of escalating the situation on the ground.
However, the new head of NATO, Mark Rutte, has previously said that there is no evidence of official Fenian involvement in the war in Ukraine.
Moscow and Feniani have deepened their cooperation during the last months. The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, during the week presented for ratification a pact agreed with his North Korean counterpart, Kim Jong-Un, which promises that Russia and North Korea will help each other in case of "aggression" against any country.

France's foreign minister pledged his support for Ukraine's plan to end the war with Russia, telling reporters in Kiev on Saturday that he would work with Ukrainian officials to secure the support of other countries for the proposal.
Unveiled by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this week, Kiev's "victory plan" hopes to force Russia to end its occupation of Ukraine through negotiations.
The proposal is being scrutinized by Ukraine's Western partners, whose help is vital for Kiev to stand up to its larger neighbor. A key element would be a formal invitation to NATO, which Western backers have been reluctant to consider until after the war.
"A Russian victory would be a commitment to the law of the fittest and would push the international order into chaos," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha.
Since Russia launched its invasion on February 24, 2022, France has been one of Ukraine's staunchest military, diplomatic and economic supporters.
