The United States of America will support the European perspective of North Macedonia. This is what the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Matthew Palmer, declared after the meeting in Skopje with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
"Our message is that the USA is a partner and friend of North Macedonia. We are committed to these relations with North Macedonia and its integration into NATO and the EU", the American diplomat declared in a statement to the media.
He emphasized that during the visit to North Macedonia, and the meetings with the leaders of institutions and political parties, the general determination that there are no other alternatives for the country except Euro-Atlantic integration was reaffirmed.
"We have consistently stated that the Prespa Agreement is very important and that the US will continue to support it as it is of great importance for security and stability in the region and that its implementation must continue," Palmer stated, REL broadcasts.
The Prespa Agreement between North Macedonia and Greece ended the dispute of more than two decades between the two neighboring countries over the name issue, in which case the state was named North Macedonia.
During his three-day stay in North Macedonia, the American diplomat also met with the leader of the Macedonian opposition, Hristijan Mickovski, who, as it is known in a communique of VMRO DPMNE, emphasized "the need for deep reforms in society and the unconditional fight against organized crime and corruption".
Meanwhile, in the meeting with the chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, the latter assured the American diplomat that "BDI will be the guarantor of the Prespa Agreement, the Ohrid Agreement and the Good Neighbor Agreement with Bulgaria, from which there is no turning back."

The American special envoy for the Western Balkans said that he also met with the ambassadors of the countries of Southeast Europe, with whom he talked about further developments in the region, as well as the latest decision at the European summit in Brussels.
The American diplomat's visit to Skopje comes a few days after the European Council refused to set a date for the start of membership talks for North Macedonia and Albania.
The American State Department had expressed its disappointment regarding this decision of the EU.
