US airstrikes targeting an oil port controlled by Houthi rebels on Friday killed 74 people and wounded 171 others, according to the Iran-backed rebel group, the AP news agency reported.
Trump's campaign began on March 15, after Iran-backed Houthi rebels began attacking merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden following the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, disrupting one of the most important trade routes that carries 15% of world maritime trade.
In a statement, the US military's Central Command said that "US forces have taken action to eliminate this fuel source for the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists and deprive them of the illicit profits that have funded the Houthi's efforts to terrorize the entire region for over 10 years."
"The strike was not intended to harm the Yemeni people, who rightly want to escape from Houthi subjugation and live peacefully," the statement added. It did not give details on the number of casualties or damage.
