Somali forces said they had defeated the Islamist militants since Friday (19 August). attacked a hotel in the capital, killing at least 20 people.
As the BBC reported on Sunday, the attackers used explosives to enter the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu, until they managed to take many customers hostage.
For over 30 hours, Somali forces battled the militants, until it is said that all the attackers were killed.
"The security forces have now ended the siege and the gunmen have been killed," said an unidentified official.
The hotel was largely destroyed after intense attacks.
The published images show the huge fire that engulfed the well-known Somali hotel, during the fight between the local forces and the militants. The Islamist group Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack.
