Fuel shortages - EU urges tourists not to cancel travel plans

BE

The EU urged tourists and travelers on Wednesday to go ahead with their vacation and travel plans, saying there was no shortage of jet fuel and that they would be protected in the event of any disruption.

The comment was made by the European Commissioner for Transport and Sustainable Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, during a meeting of the bloc's transport ministers in Cyprus.

"To date we have no signs of a shortage of jet fuel supplies," Tzitzikostas insisted, saying the EU would present a plan next week to address this risk.

He has also urged tourists and travelers not to refrain from making travel and vacation plans.

"If our citizens or potential tourists from third countries do not feel safe enough to book their trips and holidays, a crisis will hit us sooner than we think and we must avoid entering this spiral," Tzitzikostas said.
