The Russian MiG Air Corporation is developing a new fifth-generation fighter jet MiG-41, its CEO Ilya Tarasenko announced.
It is about the aircraft that will inherit the MiG 31 interceptor, which is known by the names MiG-41 or PAK DP.
Last year, Tarasenko said the MiG-41 would have two engines, reduce radar visibility and, perhaps most importantly, be faster than its predecessor, which according to official specifications can fly at up to 3,000 km/h , which means that this would be the fastest plane in the world, and reportedly four times faster than sound.
"The MiG-41 will be the fastest in the world, imperceptible to radars and will be able to compete not only with standard threats, such as cruise missiles, bombers and drones, but with the threat posed by supersonic missiles." the company announces.
The MiG 41 will have a range of 700 to 1500 kilometers and will be armed with R-37 air-to-air missiles, as well as new generation missiles. Tarasenko said that the MiG-41 will be able to perform tasks at close range and that it is a completely new aircraft that, apart from the role, will not have much in common with the MiG 31.
According to people involved in this project, the characteristics will be avant-garde in relation to existing aircraft in operational use, reports ksp. This is mainly related to speed, since the basic requirement for the PAK DP is to be a hypersonic aircraft.
