Meloni to meet with Trump over tariffs

Donald Trump Giorgia Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will visit Washington next week to discuss US tariffs on the European Union with President Donald Trump.

She has supported EU calls for a negotiated solution to the tariffs imposed by the US.

"This is a negotiation that should see us all involved and at all levels... and it includes me, who will be in Washington on April 17 and of course I will address this problem with the US president," Meloni declared.

"I think we can all agree that a trade war between Europe and the US is not in anyone's best interest," she added.

The Italian prime minister has also indicated that the government could use $11 billion in EU funds to help businesses affected by US tariffs.
