Macron launches European initiative to negotiate end to Israel-Iran conflict

Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has instructed Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot to work with European partners on a negotiated proposal to end the fighting between Israel and Iran.

Macron convened the Security and Defense Council on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Iran, his office said in a statement.

"It is necessary to urgently end these military operations, which pose serious threats to regional security," he said.

The French Foreign Ministry, like many other countries, is mediating the movement of French citizens out of Israel and Iran.
