French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Russia's attack on Ukraine is a "turning point" in European history, the BBC reports.
In a televised address, he said that France will stand by Ukraine.
Macron has added that Russia's actions will have long and deep consequences for the continent.
Macron spoke in front of the Ukrainian flag during the address, which is unusual as he usually carries the flag of France and the European Union.
He told the Ukrainians, "your freedom is ours".
Macron also spoke about the sanctions against Russia, which he said will target the Russian army, the economy and the energy sector.
