French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday he will invite Pope Francis to the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which was destroyed by fire in 2019.
Asked if Pope Francis will attend the opening scheduled for December 8, 2024, Macron told France 2: "I hope so, we will definitely invite him. But it is not up to me to answer on his behalf."
A year before the planned reopening, Macron visited the country, saying things were going well.
Since the end of November, the outline of the 96-meter-high tower, which collapsed in a fire on April 15, 2019, can be seen again behind the scaffolding. Its collapse is a symbol of a catastrophic fire.
