Venezuelan Nobel laureate Maria Corina Machado has said she has received "support" from the United States to travel to Norway to accept the Nobel Peace Prize, but declined to provide details.

Asked about the circumstances in which she left Venezuela and whether she benefited from the assistance of American authorities, the opposition leader replied: "Yes, we received support from the United States government."

"I can't give details, because there are people who could be harmed," Machado said of those who helped her travel.

"Of course, the regime would have done everything to prevent me from coming. They didn't know where I was hiding in Venezuela, so it was difficult for them to stop me," Mochado added.

Mochado made his first public appearance since January on Wednesday, appearing on the balcony of a hotel in Oslo, where many supporters were waiting for him.
