World leaders congratulated Donald Trump on Monday on his inauguration as the 47th president of the United States.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was among those who congratulated Trump.
"President Trump is always resolute, and the policy of peace through strength that he announced provides an opportunity to strengthen American leadership and achieve a lasting and just peace, which is a top priority," Zelenskyy said.
February 22nd marks three years since the start of Russia's large-scale offensive against Ukraine.
President Trump previously promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war within a day of becoming president, or even before his inauguration. Recently, Trump's advisers have said that resolving the conflict will now take months or even longer.
President Trump has expressed skepticism about the United States' continued military support for Kiev.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also congratulated Trump on the start of his second term.
"I believe that our cooperation will further deepen the US-Israel alliance," Netanyahu said.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas went into effect on Sunday, just one day before President Trump began his term.
"I look forward to working with you to free the remaining hostages, destroy Hamas's military capabilities, and end this group's political rule in the Gaza Strip, and to ensure that Gaza never becomes a threat to Israel," Netanyahu added.
President Trump also received congratulations from NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as United States allies such as Germany, Italy and Britain.
"The United States is our closest ally and the goal of our policy is always a good transatlantic relationship," said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted the long-standing relationship between the United States and Britain.
"For centuries, our countries have had a relationship of cooperation and enduring partnership," Starmer said. "Based on President Trump's longstanding affection and historic ties with the United Kingdom, I know our deep friendship will continue."
And Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who attended the inauguration ceremony in Washington, said she is "sure that the friendship between our countries and the values that unite us will continue to strengthen cooperation between Italy and the United States."
Panamanian President José Raul Mulino criticized a part of President Trump's speech in which he reiterated his desire to restore United States control over the Panama Canal.
The United States ceded full control of the strategically important Panama Canal in 1999.
"On behalf of the Republic of Panama and its people, I must express my complete opposition to the part of President Donald Trump's speech regarding Panama and its canal," Mulino said in a statement./VoA
