Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajcak has said he does not remember conversations with Jeffrey Epstein. However, he added that reading them now makes him feel like an idiot.

The former European Union envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue resigned on Saturday from his position as an advisor to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after the publication of his communications with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In the published documents, Lajcak and Epstein also talked about women. In one of the conversations, Epstein offered women to Lajcak and made fun of them. So far, Lajcak has not spoken publicly. And in an interview for the show "Otvorene" on Radio Slovakia, he said that he does not remember the conversations.

"I honestly don't remember those discussions," said the former envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, when asked about the issue of women in the talks. "I can neither confirm nor deny them."

Lajçak has said that he feels "like an idiot" when he sees those conversations.

"But that doesn't absolve me of responsibility. I showed poor judgment and inadequate communication. The messages were nothing more than crazy male ego - male self-indulgent jokes," he said.

But he also stated that thanks to Epstein he met many people with whom he established contacts. He denied knowing about the sexual abuse.

"He had a wide network of political contacts. Today, when I look at them, I see that he was the one who talked the most about those reports, who initiated meetings, but there was nothing more than words," Lajçak said.

American businessman Jeffrey Epstein was accused of sending underage girls to his private Caribbean island "Little Saint James", where he sexually abused and used them for international trafficking, while using connections to powerful people to cover up his activities. Epstein committed suicide in 2019 while in prison.

US authorities have meanwhile released millions of documents linking Epstein to various political figures around the world.
