North Korea launches intercontinental ballistic missile

North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday but it failed mid-flight, the South Korean military said.

It is the seventh time this year that Pyongyang has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, and comes as concerns have grown that it will soon test a nuclear weapon.

On Wednesday, there were mutual missile launches between South and North Korea, escalating tensions.

South Korea launched the largest number of missiles in one day, 23.

At around 7:40 a.m. local time on Thursday, North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile that flew 760 kilometers and reached an altitude of 1920 kilometers.

But South Korea has said the missile failed to take off afterwards.

Pyongyang also launched two short-range ballistic missiles.
