Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tuesday that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could face the same fate as former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was ousted from power in 2003 after a US-led invasion.
"I warn the Iranian dictator not to continue committing war crimes and not to fire rockets at Israeli citizens," Katz told senior military officials.
Among other things, Israel said that last night's attacks in Iran killed the Iranian Army Chief of Staff, Ali Shadmani, just days after he took office as the replacement for the commander killed in the first attacks.
Iran has not yet commented on the claim.
Overnight, the Islamic Republic launched two waves of rockets in response to Israeli attacks, setting off alarms in several parts of the Jewish state.
The attacks were less intense than the previous night, and no direct damage was reported.
