Qatar will no longer mediate ceasefire talks in Gaza until Hamas and Israel "show a sincere willingness to return to the negotiating table," a source told AFP.
The move marks the biggest setback in efforts to reach a ceasefire since Hamas launched its war in Gaza with an attack on Israel on October 7 last year.
"Qatar has said since the beginning of the conflict that they can mediate only when both sides show genuine interest in finding a solution," the official said.
He added that Qatar has notified Hamas, Israel and the US administration of its decision.
Qatar, along with the US and Egypt, played an important role in the so far unsuccessful negotiations for a ceasefire in the year-long war in Gaza.
The last round of talks in mid-October failed to reach an agreement after Hamas rejected a short-term ceasefire proposal.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the United States has asked Qatar to close the office of Hamas in this country.
