The 22nd President of the Republic of France, Jacques Chirac, passed away today at the age of 86. The news of his death was confirmed by his son-in-law Frederic Salat-Baroux.
In 2010, Chirac was admitted to the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital, in Paris, because he was suffering from a pulmonary infection, reports the French media, reports Koha.net. For the same reason, he was admitted to this hospital in December 2015 and September 2016.
Born on November 29, 1932, he has weakened physically in recent years. Jacques Rene Chirac was President of the Republic of France for 12 years, after winning the presidential election against Lionel Jospin on 7 May 1995, and was re-elected on 5 May 2002 against Jean-Marie The Pen.
Chirac was also the President of France at the time of the talks in Rambouillet and the NATO attacks against Serbia.
