At least 140 people have been killed by Israeli military gunfire and strikes in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, local health officials said. At least 40 were killed in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire on Wednesday.
Fourteen more people were killed by Israeli fire on crowds of displaced Palestinians waiting for trucks carrying aid sent by the United Nations.
Palestinian doctors said that successive air strikes on homes in the Maghazi refugee camp, the Zeitoun neighborhood and central and northern Gaza killed at least 21 others, Reuters news agency reported.
The Israeli military said it was investigating the reported deaths of Palestinians who were receiving food aid. Many Palestinians have complained that their plight is being overlooked and ignored due to the war between Israel and Iran.
