New York City Mayor Eric Adams is leading negotiations to house illegal immigrants on a giant cruise ship near Staten Island.
Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed to Fox News that it has received an application to lease one of its cruise ships, which would serve as housing for immigrants, but that there is no agreement yet.
The company owns 18 luxury cruise ships.
Information about Adams' plan was first reported by the New York Post. This newspaper reported that the mayor is also considering the possibility of setting up a tent city similar to the one already being set up in the Bronx.
Another cruise ship from the Estonian company Tallink is also a possibility.

It is not yet known how much it will cost to charter a cruise ship, but it is speculated that a Norwegian cruise ship would be more affordable compared to a tent city that costs the city $15 million a month.
About 15.500 immigrants have arrived in New York since May, and Republican governors are insisting they travel further north to Democratic-controlled states to highlight the consequences of what they say are President Joe Biden's lax border policies.
Adams, who is a Democrat, plans to dock the cruiser in Staten Island, but Republican Mayor Vito Fossella considers the plan "problematic."
"What's next, trucks on the road? These problems shouldn't be Staten Island's problem," he said.

Republican Nicole Malliotakis described Adams' plan as "a ridiculous idea that could only come from an incompetent administration."
