Hezbollah - the militant group and political party that controls most of southern Lebanon - launched an attack on the border area, which is under Israeli control, on December 2, after Israel has carried out several attacks inside Lebanon since the cessation of hostilities agreement came into effect. power last week.

Hezbollah said its attack - its first since the ceasefire - was a warning in response to what it said were continued ceasefire violations by Israel.

The Israeli military said two shells were fired at Mount Dov, which is a disputed territory under Israeli control. This place is located where the border between Lebanon, Syria and Israel is located.

No casualties or material damage were reported from the Hezbollah attack.

This Lebanese group said it attacked Israeli military positions in the area as a "warning" for what it described as "continuous violations" of the ceasefire.

The truce, brokered by the United States and France, came into effect last week and provides for a 60-day cessation of hostilities aimed at ending more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Since then, Israel has carried out a series of airstrikes in Lebanon. Israel carried out the latest attacks on Monday, when a drone killed a man riding a motorcycle in southern Lebanon and another strike hit a Lebanese army bulldozer in the northeastern city of Hermel, injuring a soldier.

Israel said the attacks were in response to ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, but did not provide details on what type of violations.

Even in the previous days there were attacks in Lebanon.

The US and France are tasked with monitoring all ceasefire violations. Israel said that, under the ceasefire agreement, it reserves the right to respond if the ceasefire is violated.

Hezbollah has fired rockets into northern Israel since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. The group has said it will stop attacks only after Israel ends its war in Gaza. Fighting between the two sides escalated in October, when Israel launched a ground offensive in Lebanon.

In the past 14 months, Israel has killed almost all of Hezbollah's leadership, including its de facto leader Hassan Nasrallah, and destroyed the group's military arsenal.

Israel has vowed to ensure Iran does not continue to fund and arm the group and has warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against easing Iranian aid to Hezbollah./REL
