A growing number of senior Democratic politicians are backing Vice President Kamala Harris to become the party's presidential nominee in the Nov. 5 election, after Biden withdrew from the race.

Biden announced his decision to withdraw on Sunday evening, after growing calls among Democrats for him to leave since the debate he had on CNN with his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, the BBC reports.

He is now backing Harris, who has said she intends to win.

Also, there has reportedly been an increase in public donations to Democrats since Biden announced his withdrawal.
