Germany is expected to gradually increase the minimum wage to 14.60 euros by 2027, from the current level of 12.82 euros, according to a proposal from a government commission published on Saturday.
According to the plan, the minimum wage will initially increase to 13.90 euros at the beginning of 2026.
As of last year, Germany has had the second highest minimum wage in the European Union, after Luxembourg, where the monthly minimum wage is 2,638 euros.
According to Reuters, three other EU countries have minimum wages above 2,000 euros per month – Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland.
The proposal was drafted by a commission composed of representatives of employers and unions, and now needs to be implemented by the German Ministry of Labor.
