Germany plans to solve its skilled labor shortage by hiring workers from India en masse, German Labor Minister Hubertus Heil announced this week in Berlin.
For this, he added, the state will take over 30 measures to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles related to the granting of permits to workers from India.
Heil warned that Germany is facing a severe labor shortage and these obstacles are hindering the country's growth and progress. The minister fears that the situation will worsen as Germany faces an aging society, reports the German news agency dpa.
"In India, the situation is exactly the opposite", he said and explained that the labor market there has a hard time hiring all the people with higher education. According to him, 1 million people join the labor market in India every month, which is why the Indian authorities encourage migration.
"In this perspective, Germany sees India as a particularly important partner", the minister declared.
As he announced, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs will digitize the issuance of visas for India by the end of the year and a little later for other countries as well. With this, they want to accelerate the employment of foreigners in Germany.
They also plan wider promotion of the German language, and at the same time better help for Indians already in Germany to find work.
According to the minister, Germany will present the Indian employment strategy during the visit of German representatives to India next week.
