The bodies of two Spanish children missing from the floods have been found

The bodies of two little brothers who went missing during the floods that hit Spain's eastern region of Valencia two weeks ago have been found, the Civil Guard confirmed on Wednesday, reports Reuters.

Ruben and Izan Matias Calatayud, aged 3 and 5, were found in different locations near Catarrojas, nearly 10 kilometers from their home in Torrent, a suburb of Valencia, from where they disappeared when the floods hit on October 29. said a spokesman for the Civil Guard.

Their aunt, Barbara Sastre, told Spain's broadcaster TVE last week that the boys' mother was working in Valenica and their father was at home with them when the floods hit.

The sound of water rushing down the street scared the children, and their father moved them into the living room to calm them down when the water burst through the walls, she said.

"All three were pulled by the current," she told TVE.

Their father tried to catch them, but the fast current of the water pulled them away, the state news agency EFE reported.

He survived by clinging to a tree, where he remained for four hours before being rescued with serious injuries.

Sastre said that the news "destroyed" the family.

"Many days have passed and they are very small," she said. "We know that the authorities are looking for them and that there are search parties every day."

Rescue teams looking for people missing from the storm have intensified their efforts in the nearby valleys and Albufera wetlands, as well as at sea, using specialized search vessels.

As of Tuesday, authorities have confirmed that a total of 223 people have died so far from the October 29 floods, while 17 remain missing.

The new storm warning has put the Valencia region under a new state of alert since Tuesday night, along with other areas along the Spanish coast, including the southern city of Malaga.

Emergency services have evacuated some people from homes at high risk of flooding, asked citizens to move to higher ground, while classes have been suspended in Malaga, Valencia and several Catalan municipalities.
