At least six people were killed and 37 others were injured Saturday by a Russian rocket attack on the center of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv, Ukraine's Interior Ministry (MBU) said.
People were going to church to celebrate a religious holiday when the attack took place, according to the MBU, which added that 11 children were among the injured.
"A Russian missile fell right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv. A square, a polytechnic university, a theater," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is on a working visit to Sweden, wrote on Telegram.
"This shows what a neighborhood with a terrorist state is, this is what we are uniting the world against," Zelensky said.
"An ordinary Saturday, which Russia turned into a day of pain and loss," he added.
A short video posted by Zelensky showed shrapnel strewn across the square in front of a regional drama theater, where parked cars were heavily damaged. A dead body was seen there, too.
