Besar Gërgi, a researcher at GLPS, has said that he does not expect Russian President Vladimir Putin to offer a complete ceasefire for the war in Ukraine, at the meeting he is holding with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
According to him, Russia can offer something, but not a complete ceasefire, as the West demands.
"European leaders and Zelensky had a joint conversation with Trump before this meeting began, and then the German Chancellor said something important. He said that 'we take into account that any discussion will be based on the reality on the ground, but that our request is that if there are negotiations and discussions on borders, this should only be done with the presence of Ukraine.' Therefore, Trump was under pressure from both his own electorate and from European leaders not to discuss and made it clear that today there will be no discussion on borders, but only about a kind of ceasefire. It is a Western request that before any negotiations there should be a ceasefire," Gërgi said on KTV's Interactive.
He has said that Putin could offer some kind of ceasefire, whether in the air or at sea, but not a complete one.
"Maybe in the air where we have seen that Russia has taken many hits from Russian drones... maybe at sea when there is no major fighting... Russia has had major losses there too. In all likelihood, it will offer a truce, but not one that changes the reality," he added.
