US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with G7 foreign ministers in France, defending the US's resolve for military action against Iran despite skepticism from allies. Meanwhile, Israel warned that attacks on Iran would escalate and expand, as Iranian missiles and drones hit Gulf countries.
Deep divisions of opinion were seen among the foreign ministers of the seven largest economic powers at the G7 foreign ministers' meeting on Friday.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined his G7 counterparts shortly after President Donald Trump criticized NATO countries over developments in the Middle East.
Most of the US's closest allies have welcomed this war with skepticism, however, they have emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to get out of this situation.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has stated that his country is ready to contribute to the security of maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz, but only after hostilities in the region end.
"Germany is ready to play a role after the end of hostilities in ensuring the safety of maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz. We have had an initial discussion on this topic, which we will certainly deepen further. My goal here is to ensure that we expand the common ground we share in this dispute," Wadephul stated.

And shortly before leaving Washington, Marco Rubio told reporters that he was not concerned about the dissatisfaction of the G7 countries regarding the war on Iran.
"I'm not here to make them happy. I have good personal relationships with everyone and we cooperate with those governments carefully, but the people I want to please are the citizens of the United States. I work for them. I don't work for France, Germany or Japan," Rubio stressed.
Meanwhile, Israel launched a new wave of attacks on Iran on Friday.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated that attacks on Iran will escalate and expand.
"We have warned the Iranian terrorist regime to stop firing rockets at the civilian population in Israel. Despite warnings, the attacks continue, and therefore the attacks on Iran will escalate and expand to other targets and areas that assist the regime in building and using weapons against Israeli citizens. They will pay a heavy and increasing price for this war crime," Katz declared.

He said Friday's attack in central Tehran targeted facilities for the production of ballistic missiles and other weapons. Rocket launchers and warehouses in western Iran were also hit. Smoke was also seen in Beirut, but Israel did not confirm any strikes there.
Meanwhile, alarm sirens were also heard in Israel as the military tried to stop the Iranian missiles.
Iran continued to launch missiles and drones towards Gulf Arab countries.
Alarm sirens were heard in Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
