The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, has called "unacceptable" Germany's decision to expand temporary controls at all land border points to fight irregular migration, "BBC" reports.
He is one of several senior figures from Germany's neighboring states who have criticized the move.
Land border controls with France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark will be added from next week.
The head of a Dutch-German alliance of border communities said it was "a panic reaction", while the Austrian Interior Ministry stressed that it will not accept anyone leaving Germany.
But the German conservative opposition said that Berlin has not gone far enough.
Germany's interior minister, Nancy Faeser, had explained that the expanded border controls are to protect "against the dangers of Islamic terrorism and serious crimes".
Under the plan, which has been submitted to 16 German states, police will check whether any asylum seeker has sought protection in another EU state. If yes, deportation procedures will be taken immediately.
