British Defense Secretary John Healey resigned on Thursday.

In his resignation letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Healey said the reason for his resignation was related to defense spending.

According to him, the government is not willing to spend as much as is necessary at a time of increasing risks.

"This new era for defence required further investment through the Defence Investment Plan. The excellent and extensive cross-government work that concluded in January, overseen by you, myself and the Chancellor, confirmed the scale of the challenge and the growing demands for defence. Since then, you have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of growing threats," the resignation letter said.

He added that without a defense investment plan, he was forced to make decisions that would reduce the readiness of British forces and also make the country less safe.
