Turkish protesters clashed with police forces on Saturday in front of the Istanbul Municipal Assembly building, on the fourth night of protests against the arrest of the city's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu.
The clash occurred after Imamoglu, who is the main political rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was questioned by prosecutors in an Istanbul court on charges of corruption and links to terrorist organizations.
Crowds of protesters began gathering in front of the municipal assembly building in the evening hours to demonstrate support for Imamoglu. Another crowd gathered in front of the courthouse, where the opposition leader is being held. Prosecutors questioned Imamoglu for nearly 5 hours.
The mayor of Istanbul has denied allegations of corruption and his links to the Kurdish terrorist organization, the PKK.
His arrest earlier this week intensified protests in several cities in Turkey, with 343 protesters arrested by Friday evening.
