Britain suspends 30 arms export licenses to Israel

Britain has decided to immediately suspend 30 of its 350 arms export licenses to Israel because it said there was a risk such equipment could be used for serious violations of international humanitarian law. The news was announced by British Foreign Minister David Lammy on Monday, reports the "Reuters" agency. 

Lammy said the decision to suspend the licenses does not constitute a blanket ban or embargo on arms, but only includes those that could be used in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. 

"We of course recognize Israel's need to defend itself against security threats, but we are deeply concerned by the methods Israel is using and the reports of civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure," Lammy told the British Parliament. 

Israel's Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, has said that he is "deeply disappointed with the sanctions imposed by Great Britain on certain arms exports". 

"This comes at a time when we are fighting on seven fronts. At a time when we are mourning six hostages who were executed in cold blood by Hamas inside the tunnels in Gaza", wrote Gallant on the "X" platform.
