Britain, 20 countries begin talks on peacekeeping force in Ukraine

The United Kingdom is holding a closed-door meeting on Thursday with senior military leaders from more than 20 countries from the "coalition of the willing" as they formulate plans for a proposed peacekeeping force for Ukraine, the BBC reported.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to take part in the talks on Thursday night after making a rare visit to a nuclear submarine.

Plans for a Western peacekeeping force for Ukraine are said to be entering the operational phase soon.

Senior military officers from the countries forming the "coalition of the willing", led by Britain and France, will discuss how the mission will work in practice.

But there are some major obstacles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Moscow will not tolerate the presence of any soldiers from a NATO member in Ukraine, regardless of their role.
