The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, met the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the White House, Blinken said that the US recognizes Israel's right to prevent terrorist attacks, but emphasized the need to protect civilians and not damage civilian infrastructure.
Netanyahu and Blinken also discussed the release of hostages and the passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza, spokesman Matthew Miller said.
