According to a new poll, President Donald Trump's popularity has declined over the past 2-3 months.
In a joint poll by the Washington Post newspaper and ABC television, support for Mr. Trump fell from 42 percent in April to 36 percent in July. Meanwhile, disapproval of the policies pursued by the president has increased, reaching the figure of 58 percent; among them, 48 percent say they "do not agree at all" with the president's handling of various issues, a level that, according to The Washington Post, was never reached by Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Such a low level of approval has only been for President George W. Bush during his second term.
Almost half of Americans, 48 percent of them, think that the vision of the United States in the world has been damaged during the Trump presidency; only 27 percent of respondents say that the vision of the country has strengthened.
When asked about their assessment of how Mr. Trump is negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin, 48 percent of Americans said they do not trust their president at all.
The survey was conducted after the announcements in the newspaper "The New York Times" that Donald Trump, Jr. and Mr. Trump's campaign officials have met with the Russians, with the goal of learning incriminating information about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
The meeting with the Russians was called "inappropriate" by more than 6 in 10 Americans. According to the survey, almost half of the Republicans questioned called the meeting appropriate.
