The campaign for the third dose in the United States has begun to slow, worrying health experts who have urged Americans to get vaccinated to boost protection against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 40 percent of fully vaccinated Americans have received the booster dose. The average of 1 additional doses per day in early December has fallen to 490 this week.
More than 13 months since vaccination was launched, only 63 percent of Americans, or 210 million people, have been fully vaccinated.
The decision on mandatory vaccination could toughen the campaign, but this decision has been repeatedly opposed. The US and many other countries have urged people to take the booster dose. Recent studies have shown that the third dose of the vaccine strengthens protection against the coronavirus.
