The EU proposes new sanctions against Russia

Ursula von der Leyen

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced that the European Union is imposing new sanctions against Russia.

Von der Leyen has said that Russia has moved to a new level of escalation of the occupation of Ukraine, through mobilization and fake referendums, and for this reason, according to her, the EU has decided to propose a new package of austerity measures against this country.

Through these sanctions, the EU aims to limit Russian trade even further.

"New bans on the import of Russian products, depriving the economy of this country of seven billion euros in income", announced the head of the EC on Twitter.

She further announced that the bloc will expand the list of products that cannot be exported to Russia, especially those related to weapons, aircraft and chemical substances.

"Prohibition for EU citizens to sit on the management bodies of Russian state companies. A legal basis for an oil price ceiling. Some developing countries still need some supplies of Russian oil, at low prices. This limit will help reduce Russia's income and keep global energy markets stable," said Von der Leyen's announcement.
