The European Union has criticized Russia for its arms deal with North Korea, saying it violates UN rules.
"Russia is violating UN rules by accepting weapons from North Korea for use in its illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine," the EU's External Affairs Service (EEAS) said on Friday. .
UN resolutions aim to limit military cooperation with North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, but in September the country's leader Kim Jong Un met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia for talks.
Arms shipments could help Moscow take steps forward in the war against Ukraine. The shipments come at a time when EU countries are behind their pledge to deliver 1 million rounds of ammunition to Kiev by the end of next March.
"The EU strongly condemns any such arms trade. The EU calls on North Korea and Russia to refrain from any exchange of military equipment or ammunition and to respect successive UN Security Council resolutions," the EEAS said in its statement.
