The UN General Assembly will meet on Tuesday to vote on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, days after the United States vetoed a similar resolution proposed in the Security Council.
The BBC has reported that the current proposed draft was submitted by a group of 20 Arab countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
No country has veto power in the 193-member General Assembly. However, unlike the Security Council, General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, although they reflect world opinion.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Security Council has failed six times to pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire due to disagreements among the 15 members.
