The death toll from a deadly earthquake in Afghanistan has risen to over 1400, with authorities saying thousands of people were injured, Reuters reports.
At least 1411 people have been killed, 3124 have been injured and over 5,400 houses have been destroyed, said Taliban administration spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
The 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Kunar province late Sunday.
The death toll could rise as many people are believed to be trapped under the rubble. The search and rescue operation has been hampered by the mountainous terrain, with most roads blocked by landslides and rockslides.
The WHO has announced that the overwhelmed health system and the distribution of aid to affected areas is one of the biggest challenges.
Britain and India are among the countries that have offered assistance.
