A woman is arrested in connection with the murder of two children who were found in a suitcase in Zealand

Police in New Zealand say a woman in South Korea has been arrested in connection with the murder of two children who were found in a suitcase last month, the BBC reports.

In a case that has shocked the country, the bodies were discovered by two foreigners who had bought the suitcase from a storage unit in Auckland.

The bodies had been kept for several years. South Korean police said the victims were between the ages of 7 and 10.

New Zealand has requested the extradition of the woman from South Korea.

New Zealand police have said they have been working closely with South Korean authorities for the past three weeks to search for the woman, who is in her 40s, after saying last month that the suspect was believed to be in South Korea.

He was able to be traced after the victims, whose names have not yet been released, were identified.

"Having someone in custody after such a short period of time was only possible with the help of the Korean authorities and coordination with them," said Detective Tofilau Fa'manuaia Vaaleua.

The woman is of Korean origin, while she had been hiding in an apartment in the city of Ulsan. She was caught on Thursday morning.
