Italian police have arrested Italy's biggest drug lord, Matteo Messina Denaro, Reuters reported on Monday.
Denaro was arrested in the Sicilian capital Palermo while serving a life sentence in absentia for his role in the murder of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
As Reuters reports, he is also convicted of dozens of bomb attacks in Florence, Milan and Rome, as well as the murder of 10 people.
Italian authorities said that although he was missing, Denaro continued to command the criminal group from afar.
He also reacted to the case the well-known Italian journalist who reports on issues of criminal groups, Roberto Saviano.
"The last ruler of the Cosa Nostra generation was no longer able to hide. He was arrested. Obviously he was in his place, like all bosses, he was exactly where everyone knew he was," Saviano tweeted on Monday.
