Trump administration aims to pull $100 million in funding for Harvard

The Trump administration will direct federal agencies to review their grants to Harvard University, potentially ending them or redistributing them, as part of the White House's growing battle with America's oldest university.

The Government Services Agency (GSA) plans to distribute a letter to agencies "asking them to identify any contracts with Harvard and whether they can be canceled or redirected elsewhere," a senior White House official has said, the BBC reports.

The administration estimates that about 30 contracts, with a collective value of $100 million, may be under consideration.

The White House will not automatically revoke the funds, but will launch a review of the money Harvard receives from the federal government to determine whether, in the administration's eyes, they are critical.

The GSA will recommend that each agency “terminate for convenience any contract that it determines has failed to meet its standards” and consider reallocating those funds to other entities.

A draft of the letter accuses Harvard of engaging in discrimination and anti-Semitism as justification for this action.

The White House and Harvard are engaged in a political, legal and financial battle that has escalated dramatically over the past two months.
