Europe has 12 sovereign monarchies. Only Great Britain is the only European monarchy that still holds a coronation ceremony.

In many other monarchies, the abdication of the throne is done symbolically.
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, Spain, Netherlands and Belgium are kingdoms. Andorra, Liechtenstein and Monaco are principalities, Luxembourg is a Grand Duchy, while the Vatican is a theocratic monarchy, with election directed by the Pope.
