Germany issues an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian in connection with the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion

The German state prosecutor's office has issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian in connection with the mystery of the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea in 2022, "BBC" reports.

Ukrainian suspect Volodymyr Z., as German media have reported, is a diving instructor.

The spokeswoman for the German Prosecutor's Office, Ines Peterson, has refused to comment on the case, telling "BBC" that her office never comments on cases to avoid jeopardizing investigations and giving suspects the chance to flee.

But the spokeswoman for the General Prosecutor's Office in Poland, Anna Adamiak, said that a European arrest warrant was actually sent by German prosecutors.

When Polish police officials went to Mr. Volodymyr's home earlier in July, he had left for Ukraine, Adamiak said.

He had lived in a quiet area in Pruszkow, a town near the capital Warsaw.

According to an investigation by three German media, including ARD, Volodymyr Z. was part of a team of experienced Ukrainian divers who in September 2022 had taken a German yacht, sailed to the Baltic Sea and planted explosives, throwing air three of the four Nord Stream pipes.

A man and a woman, both Ukrainians, are also suspected of being involved.

If media reports are true, and that a group of Ukrainian divers blew up the pipes, it is still not known whose directive the attack was on.
