The Philippine military says China endangered its forces

The Philippine military has condemned the "dangerous and provocative actions" of China's air force in a disputed part of the South China Sea.

It is the first time the Philippines has complained of dangerous actions by Chinese aircraft since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr took office in 2022, Reuters reports.

Two People's Liberation Army Air Force jets executed a risky maneuver blocking the path of a Philippine Air Force NC-212i propeller plane conducting a routine maritime patrol off the coast of Scarborough.

China "put at risk the lives of our personnel conducting maritime security operations recently within Philippine maritime zones," Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Romeo Braener said, adding that the Chinese aircraft interfered with lawful flight operations and violated international aviation safety law.
