Flooding in Sudan aggravates the situation of the inhabitants crushed by the civil war

Sudan

Massive flooding has forced people displaced by Sudan's civil war to relocate once again, adding further suffering to the plight of families already exhausted by the conflict.

Families who had been living in a school in the eastern province of Kassala were hit by the floods.

The United Nations Refugee Agency, UNCHR, provided emergency tents and relocated families, stressing that the need for aid is great.

According to her, at least 200 families have been displaced so far, AP reports.

More than 11 thousand people, including refugees and local communities in Kassala have been affected by floods and heavy rains in the last two weeks. More storms are reported in the coming days.

Much of the country has been embroiled in a humanitarian crisis since fighting began more than a year ago between the army and a powerful paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF.

Bichenge Malaika Balikwisha, head of the UNCHR office in Kassala, described the latest flood as "crisis after crisis".

More than 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes both within the country and across its borders several times, according to UNHCR.
